Kultur

I read the optional article "In Berlin, You Never Have to Stop" and it was a great story. A man was writing about his experience moving from Australia to Berlin with his band to produce an album. He said everything in Berlin was cheap: beer, rent and entertainment. For artists and musicians, Berlin is a place filled with inspiration, but because of how easily it is reached, people can become lazy. In this authors portrayal, Berlin is good and bad.

First off, Ostalgie is a very creative name. Good job to whomever thought it up. The Ampelmännchen is adorable. I would fight to keep him too. It doesn't surprise me that there are still people who believe in the East West division. There are many people who grow used to the ways were when they grew up. They expect it to always be like this, and if there is change, that it should be for the better. By tearing down the wall, it isn't like everyone in Germany got a 10% increase in their salaries with benefits. Life continues on, and people will think back of "the good ole days" even if it wasn't any better.

It is interesting that Germany is split into four categories. North, south, east or west. It is also completeyly normal to have stereotypes about each other. America stereotypes many of states, as well as the large sections of the north and south, or the midwest and coasts. It is funny how the general stereotype is similar in both America and Germany.

Dinner for Who?

I'm trying to understand how a movie can be so momentous for a country. That got me thinking if there was an American alternative. The closest I could think of was Charlie Brown's Christmas. But even then, tons of people don't watch it, I know I have only seen it once. "Dinner for One" was originally a British film, so it is interesting how it gained so much momentum in Germany.

Sorry, We're Closed.

In America, the weekends are the largest shopping days. To think it isn't so in a different country, and even then, they don't stay open into the evening, makes me wonder about how how America's large consumer ideal occurred. In America, everything is open later than Germany, with everything but small shops open on Sundays. We also live in a country with heavy consumerism. It seems that Germany would be less focused on consumerism in America, as they can't get to products as easily, and the companies aren't trying to stay open later. It would be interesting to live in a country where the whole ideal on spending and buying is so vastly different.

Booze Brothers.

Männertag oder Herrentag. I liked how one did not have to be a father to participate in the festivities. It doesn't seem like a celebration of fathers more than an excuse to be crazy and have no one mind. It's almost like Welcome Week compressed into one day for men.

Book Readings:

It sure seems like the Germans like celebrating. Open air Christmas markets, two weeks for Oktoberfest. And the Karneval. There are tons of times to celebrate. I liked how Santa had an assistant. The man is old, after all.

I really like how Switzerland requires students to be bilingual. It is much easier to learn a language when one is young. I would have loved to learn a language when I was younger, or at least try. After ten months in age, one starts to lose the differences in sounds not in ones language, So, the younger one starts, the easier it is to start learning.

I really want to read all of the Grimm's stories. I first learned about them in middle school, and it astonished me how closeted I was when it came to fairy tales. I thought Disney versions were the only kind, but then to find out they were cleaned up versions of Grimm stories was depressing. I've read a fair amount of them so far, and con't wait to finish them.

AMD 5

Normalerweise, scheinen Sie Mensch. Hier, will ich Raten (guess) was die Wesen Namen bedeutet.

Hexenbiest:
Well, this one is pretty easy. "Hexe" means witch, and "biest" sounds like beast, so I would say this creature is a witch-beast.

Hundjäger:
"Hund" is hound and "jäger" is hunter, so together it is dog-hunter or hunter-dog. I would guess some kind of a wolf, or alpha dog as the creature.

Blutbad:
"Blut" is blood and "bad" is bath. So this means Bloodbath. That sounds positively horrible. I'm not sure what this creature looks like, but I'm guessing it is not nice.

Dämonfeuer:
"Dämon" looks like demon and "feuer" is fire, so it would be "Demon-Fire." I'm guessing it is a demon that can make/breathe/do something with fire.

Schakal:
I had no idea, other than it rhymed with jackal as I was trying to figure it out, then I looked it up on pons, and it really meant jackal. So, this creature is a jackal.

Fuchsbau:
"Fuchs" is a fox, but I don't know what "bau" is. It sounds like the german word for farmer.
Looking up bau, it appears to be something like "earth" or "burrow." Fuchsbau directly transfers to [Fox's] earth. I'm guessing a Fox creature.

Löwen:
That should just be lion, so the creature is a lion.

Eisbiber:
"Eis" translates to ice, and "biber" could other be Justin Bieber, or more probably beaver. The creature, I am guessing, is an ice beaver.

Bauerschwein:
There's a farmer! and "schwein" means pig. So this one is a farmers pig. I'm not sure what is scary about a farmer's pig, but I guess it is scary if it is a Grimm story.

Hässlich:
I had no idea for this one, nothing came to mind, or seemed to rhyme and make sense (is it an adjective?), so I looked it up. It turned out to be ugly or nasty or hideous, so my guess is that this creature isn't winning any Beauty Pageants.

I'm not going to put up the pictures of all of these creatures, but for the most part, I figured out what they were/ what they would look like. The Hässlich isn't pretty, and the Blutbad is apparently a wolf-like creature. I'm going to go watch the show, now, largely because I want to know what the deal is with all of these creatures.

Research show: 20 minutes
Guess names/ write this: 40 minutes

It was easier than I thought to read. That can be because I have read the book many times (many, many times, my poor paperback is falling apart). The sentence structure was more complex then I thought it would be like, so some simple phrases in English takes ein Paar clauses in Deutsch. Most of the Englisch sentences were kleine in length than their Deutsch coutnerpats. Ich might kaufe the full version und continue reading, aber it will take me a long zeit. Writing this post took an embarrassingly long time, so I switched over to Englisch zu Besser convey my thoughts, ich hope that ist okay.

Meine letzten post war 2.5 Stunden.
Bitte sehen Sie below:

>>Für this AMD, ich sehe ein Film heißt "North Face." North Face ist about the 1936 attempt to climb der Eiger, ein mountain. Im Jahr 1936, vier men began the climb up der Eiger (leged says the Name originated from 'Ogre'). An der eiger the men faced viele challenges trying to reach the summit. Das Film ist ein dramatisch retelling of the true story, weil not all is known about was happened an der Eiger, only was ein of the men could recount to his almost rescuers. Alles died an der Eiger und they did nicht reach the top.

Wenn there was no avalanche the sight was beautiful.  It would be scary to climb the mountain, loose rocks could kill you schnell. And it did vor ein man on the mountain. Das Film war 2.5 Stunden.<<

Ich habe "Draftophobia" gelesen und ich habe "You Have What?" gelesen. Was bedeutet das? Wie können ein Kreislaufzusammenbruch be fine? What happens? Was das es feel like? Ich weiß nicht. Saunas: Ich nicht viel Leute wer gern the Sauna in den USA. Die Leute glauben es gross. Es ist different das Deutschland likes the Saunas, aber ich can not judge.

The Kultur section in das Buch war sehr interessant. Ich habe kein Idee about the drei Weg ein Studentin gehen kann nach Grundschule. Ich weiß nicht ob ich like that procedure. Sorting out Kinder ist sehr weird und at ein junge alt. The BAföG ist schon. Ich like das das ist ein maximum amonut of geld man owes zu Government. I really enjoyed reading about the educational system, but I do wonder if the system will be changing in the future. There was one sentence that alluded to this, and I do wonder how it will change.
