AMD 5- Hannah Loveless

Hallo!

 Für meinen AMD, Ich habe Gedichte (poetry) gelesen. Ich liebe Gedichte. Aber, Ich war kannte nicht, viele Dichter. I habe Goethe, Brecht, Hesse, und Hille gelesen. Ich las die Gedichte in Deutsch. Dann, Ich las die Gedichte in Englisch. I was surprised to find that I knew a fare amount of the individuals words in the German versions. That being said, it was hard to make sense of the poems without also reading them in English. 

Für Goethe, Ich las Erlkönig (Erkling). Ich genieße the lines:

«Sei ruhig, bleibe ruhig, mein Kind;

“

In dürren Blättern säuselt der Wind.» These lines translate to: “Be quiet, stay quiet, my child; In the dry leaves the wind is rustling." Ultimately, this poem is a bout a father who is trying to console his dying son as they ride on horseback in the night. I won't spoil the ending, but it's sehr traurig. In fact, most of Goethe's poems are somewhat dark and depressing. Ich habe auch Brecht gelesen. Ich las Vergnügungen (Pleasures). Es gefällt mir. The lines broke in a very interesting way. I loved how he made seemingly simple objects and task seem profound. This poem uses the word Begreifen, which means to understand. I think I will try to incorporate this word into my ever-expanding Deutsch vocabulary! Aside from the written poetry, I also listened to some spoken word poetry. Es its sehr toll! AMD3 Hannah Loveless

Hallo!

Für mein AMD,  Ich habe mich entschieden to learn a bit about German athletes competing in the Olympics. I checked out the Sochi Winter Olympics official site to get a basic idea of how Germany is faring this year. So far, Deutschland hat zwölf medals: siren Gold, drew Silber, ind zwei Bronze.
Deutschland kann gut Alpine Ski and Luge spielen. Aber, historically, Germany's best events are Biatholon, Speed Skating, and Luge. Deutschland im Jahr 2002 hatten die meisten medals.

Nächste, I watched a few interviews  of popular Olympic athletes in German.

This is an interview of Felix Loch, who won Gold in the Men's Singles and Team Relay Luge events. It was a bit hard to follow what was being said in the interview weil weir icy nicht a lot of sports vocabulary. I did figure out that er hat 24 Jahre alt. He won Gold in the 2010 Olympics and he felt very stressed by the American team in one of his races.

This is an interview of Natalie Geisenberger who won her first ever Gold in both the Women's Singles and Team Relay events. Sie hat 26 Jahre alt. She had won Bronze in 2010 and said she had trained very, very hard for this year's Olympics.

This video is over a Jahre alt, but I thought it was sehr interesting. It is an interview of Erik Lesser, who won silver in the Men's 20 Km Biatholon event. This interview is basically about his climb to the top of Biatholon athletes over the years.

Then I decided to check out the German national anthem, because it only seemed fitting. Here it is being played at 2010 World Cup:

The instrumentals were sehr schön. When, I read over the lyrics though, it seems a bit more intense than ours. For example, at one part the lyrics read, "Deutschland, Deutschland über alles, Über alles in der Welt! Deutsche Frauen, deutsche Treue, Deutscher Wein und deutscher Sang Sollen in der Welt beholden which in English translates to "Germany, Germany over all,Over everything in the world! German wives and fidelity, German wine and melody Shall all persevere in the world."

I am definitely expected to pay more attention to German athletes throughout the remainder of the 2014 Winter Olympics!

Kulture 8- Hannah Loveless

Hallo!

Ich habe viel gelacht when I read "Draftophobia" and "You Have What". Based on these articles, Germans sound like my Großtante! Ich dense dass Kreislaufzussamenbruch are would be rarer than German's make them out to be, but I completely relate to people with circulation problems-- meine Finger sind immer blau! As far as drafts go, I hate nothing more than a stuffy room, but meine Mitbewohnerin likes to keep das Fenster open even during the Polar Vortex. However, I don't understand why Germans wouldn't want to open their car windows in the heat of the summer. A little fresh air its gut für Sie!

Ich mag the article "Germany's Sauna Obsession". Although I think saunas are silly (and incredibly awkward), I thought it was interesting how the author noted that the sauna takes away social and economic divisions. That being said, I wish there would be another way for the citizens of Germany to unite. Badeschiff sounds sehr toll, though!

AMD2- Hannah Loveless

Fur mein AMD, ich habe gesehen "Lore" auf Netlix. I had watched trailers on this movie for a previous AMD and thought it looked sehr gut and  I was really happy when I discovered it was available to stream on Netlix.

Erste, ich habe reviews "Lore" gelesen, damit I would have a better understanding of what was going on in the movie. I spent about 10 minutes reading about the film on sites like IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes. Lore is a young German girl with a younger sister, two twin brothers and a baby brother. When Hitler dies, Lore and her siblings become orphaned and must fend for themselves in the German wilderness. As time wears on, she learns the full truth behind her parents' beliefs and develops a friendship with a young Jewish man- someone she was taught to hate. This film is based on the novel, "The Dark Room".

Dann, ich habe den Film gesehen fur 40 Minuten. The film starts with Lore cutting her Haare and counting. Her father tells her to "kommen" and they begin packing up their belongings. You can sense that something is wrong, but the parents are trying to hide it from the children. The mother insists "Wie mussen packen."

The soundtrack ist sehr gut. I ended up listening to it on my own time- Max Richter is an amazing composer. There wasn't as much dialogue in the first 40 minutes of the film as I had hoped, though.

I want to finish watching this film  disses Wochenende. Hopefully, there will be more dialogue as the plot thickens. "Lore" its sehr toll and ich empfehle anyone to watch it, especially for an AMD.

Hallo!

Fur mein Kultur post, I focused on the article, "What Dscipline". I thought it was sehr interessant, aber I couldn't help but what wonder if people in Germany could possibly hate lines more than people say, in Canada. No one like line, at least not any sane people. However, Ich mag that the author of the article gave some lustig tips on how to survive if caught in a line in Germany. Zum Beispeil, you should eat a lot of garlic before waiting in line so no one will want to stand next to you and/ or confront you.

I really enjoyed reading that Germans believe Americans believe bigger ist besser when it comes to food. To be honest, this is probably true. I thought it was interesting that the "USA kulinarish" site had tips for making Zuberreitung (Super Bowl) food.

As far as the "365 Dinge" book goes, I really want to go party I'm H20, Dante oder even Matrix. German raves seem absolutely verrückt! Berlin Fashion Week also sounds like it would be a cool thing to check out while visiting Berlin.
