Die deutsche Anstandsregel (German etiquette)

Für dieses AMD habe ich ein paar YouTube Clips über die deutsche Anstandsregel (German etiquette) gesehen. Admittedly, I would have probably done this anyway on a Saturday morning. Es ist für mich immer spannend (fascinating), wie sonderlich die Anstandsregel können sein.

Ein paar Dinge waren für mich bekannt. Zum Beispiel:

• Don't ask a German "How are you?" unless you really want to know the answer. They don't have the same greeting custom of roping you into painfully banal small talk.
• The typical american word-babble/euphemisms/minimization/indirectness involved in making requests ("If you wouldn't terrible mind just showing me where the restroom is, that'd be great."

 Aber einige andere Dinge (some other things) waren mir neue (were new to me):

• At restaurants, you are apparently expected to finish your plate.
• For toasting auf Deutsch mit Bier, you use the expression 'Prost!' -- which means something like 'Bottoms up.' For toasting auf Deutsch mit Wein, you use the expression 'Zum Wohl/Wohle!' -- which means something like 'For the good of all.'
• The reason Deutsche Toiletten are shaped for 'hochsichtbar' (high visibility).
• Germans--along with most Europeans--use Gabeln (forks) with the tines facing down.

And so continues my fascination with everyday German life.
