AMD 1

For this AMD i watched Giorgio Moroder's version of the movie Metropolis. I watched the original awhile back, which is the highest rated movie made in Germany, and i really liked it. Metropolis is the story of a dystopian future, where an elite few rule over an entire working class and leave them to toil away in their labors while they reap the benefits. The son of the Master of Metropolis then eyes a beautiful working girl and descends into the depths of the city in search of her, where he sees how the other people of Metropolis live, i.e. in constant drudgery. He then sets out on a journey to both find this girl and fix the city, a goal that puts him at odds with his father. The movie, made in the late 20's, is an interesting commentary and the current Weimar Republic, which at this point, was not handling the economy very well, and because of partisan politics, did not do very well with helping the working class. This move fostered a strong communist party in Germany that was beat out of the government, and then subsiquently killed by Hitler's National Socialist party. This updated version of Metropolis though, has new lighting and an 80's soundtrack written by Giorgio Moroder featuring artists such as Pat Benatar, Bonnie Tyler, Jon Anderson, Adam Ant, Cycle V, Loverboy, Billy Squier, and the unmistakable Freddie Mercury. This puts the movie into the perspective of the 80's, and lends a neat comparison to the overcompensated Capitalist policies of the BRD and other Western Countries.
